We believe in being as transparent as possible in our fees and what we can offer.
We believe that money is a tool to fund your life, not the other way around. Transparency is the bedrock of a good partnership, so we keep our fees simple, capped, and easy to understand.
Whether you are navigating an upcoming exit or big lifestyle change (how about a career change or sabbatical?) or looking to optimize years of accumulated RSUs, we have a path for you.
Two Paths, One Goal: Your Financial Freedom to Live Your Best Life.
We’ve designed our service models to ensure that as your wealth grows, your advisor's "cut" doesn't just keep growing to infinity. We believe in being paid for our expertise, not just the size of your account.
For our Expedition clients, the fees are billed directly from investment/retirement accounts on a quarterly basis. For our Trailhead model we have an option of paying directly through credit/debit card or ACH each quarter.
If I start with Trailhead, can I switch to Expedition later? Absolutely. You may start with Trailhead to get momentum going or while waiting on a big liquidity event. Once your portfolio reaches a level where you no longer want to spend your weekends rebalancing and making transfers, we can transition you to the Expedition model.
Why do you cap your fees? Most advisors don't. We think the traditional "1% forever" model is broken. If your portfolio grows from $1 million to $2 million, it doesn't actually cost us twice as much to manage it. By capping the fee at $7,500, we ensure that you are rewarded for your success, not penalized for it. We want you to keep the "extra" growth you’ve earned.
Does the $3,000 Trailhead fee have to be paid all at once? Definitely not. We bill that annual fee broken into quarterly payments of $750. We use a secure system that allows for you to pay it just like any other regular budgeted service via credit/debit or ACH.
Do these fees include the cost of the underlying investments? Our fee covers our advice and investment management (for Expedition). While we prioritize low-cost, tax-efficient funds those funds have their own internal costs (usually very small fractions of a percent).
What happens if my company stock crashes? For Expedition clients, our fee is tied to your account value. If your portfolio value drops, our fee drops if below the cap. Your company stock is a key piece of your overall wealth, but we'll work a plan to ensure you aren't fully tied to the whims of just one company.
Is the fee tax-deductible? While tax laws changed in 2018 regarding the deduction of investment fees for individuals, there are often ways to pay fees directly from pre-tax accounts (like an IRA) which can be more tax-efficient for Expedition clients. We will look at your specific situation to help you pay in the most "IRS-friendly" way possible.
